Kristin Westover, P.E., LEED AP O+M, is a National Account Manager for Cold Storage commercial roofing systems at GAF. She works to develop partnerships between cold storage owners, general contractors, design-build firms, and roofers across the US and Canada. She also provides education, technical support, and best practices as it relates to cold storage roofing.
Session Description
Cold storage buildings are designed to maintain cold temperatures, much colder temperatures than a typical building. Having a structure that is properly insulated and sealed to maintain the required temperature and to minimize ice build-up is essential not only for the products being stored inside, but also for potential energy savings over the life of the facility. We will review the importance of the roof in this unique construction assembly, the primary control layers and how design and construction of details can impact the functionality and energy efficiency of the building for the lifetime of the roof system.
Learning Objectives
- Understand how roof material selection and design creates a high-performance roof.
- Assess how cold storage roof design can impact building energy use and operations.
- Review the importance of air, vapor, and thermal control layer continuity.
- Assess typical cold storage details.
